Some have you may have noticed I'm packing up shop, bit by bit. After Miss Laval was kind enough to buy my main gallery from me in Regency, I'm now offering up my gallery in New Toulouse.

Rental rights for a 512sqm right near the teleport hub located in the beautiful New Orleans-style New Toulouse sim! I'm throwing in the building and the glass tower on top (The octopus comes with me, however). You get 234 prims, property is L$7750, and rent is L$450 per week.

Orphan Works Bill--Works to Steal Your Art!

Fellow artists of Caledon!

Below is an update on the Orphan Works bill.

This bill would, if passed, orphan all of your art whether it has been registered or copyrighted previously.

Artists would have to pay a fee (as yet undetermined) to databases not yet created. The artist would be responsible for submitting work to any and all databases if they want to retain the right to be paid for their art.

The bill gives no provision for creating an official database. The bill leaves it to private enterprise to create businesses that will need to profit from your registering. There are no limits on how many registries that may be created.

If a client wanted to use your work without paying, the client could look for your work on the databases until it found a database that didn't have your work on it. They could claim they looked on that database, didn't find your work. That work is now orphaned and they legally wouldn't have to pay you.

If your Representative is not a member of the House Judiciary Committee, this will send him a message asking him to contact his colleagues on that Committee on your behalf, urging them to oppose the bill.

2. Ask for support from family and friends:

Please ask your friends and family (5 to 10 others) who support your creative work to also go to the site.
They can follow the instructions to easily send a message of opposition to this reckless bill.

Look for the sample letter labeled "For Supporters of Visual Artists - Wrong to Weaken Copyright Law" and send it.

3. Spread the word to the public: Photosharing on Web will now be at risk:

Please alert your friends who post photos to the web their personal property will be at risk.

This is it, folks--the new build!

The main building itself was built by Eladrienne Laval, who also serves as Curator to the Inkyboy Gallery. The design of the building is loosely based on Chicago's Carson Pirie Scott building, which was designed by Louis Sullivan. The texture of the façade and cornice is taken from the Santa Fe building, also of Chicago. I felt that the Windy City's turn-of-the-century architecture complimented the buildings of Regency perfectly.

While you're here, be sure to turn on your radio. The station is WFMT, Chicago's main classical station.

The gallery features an ever-changing array of art styles. My illustrations are from my real-life vocation as a freelance illustrator. You can find more of my work at www.inkyboy.com. You also might find portraits of Caledonians, SL snaps, and RL photos. Faeriographs were something I came up with on a fluke, but they seem to be popular.

On the top of the glass tower at the entrance you will find the distinctive Inkyboy octopus balloon built by my favorite pixie Kandace Commons!

Coming in the spring--a cafe on the back patio and dancing in the rooftop garden!

Tag-a-Lag-a-Ding-Dong

I have been tagged by Miss Gustafson. It involves disclosing eight random things about oneself. I doubt I am that interesting. Here goes.

1. It's my personal ambition to write and illustrate children's books. Well, actually, I do that now. I suppose what I really want is to get them *published*.

2. I have been in the same room (at the same time) with Barack Obama, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, Mike Gravel, Chris Dodd, Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich. I have also spoken to--and shaken--Al Gore's hand.

3. I like my nose in SL.

4. I own my own freelance illustration business IRL. It's a bit of a struggle now, and very much a rollercoaster ride. But I love it! Now that I don't have to punch a clock, or scrape car windows every morning, or do jobs that aren't in my job description. It's like being born again, or some such.

5. I have traveled to four foreign countries from the United States). Mexico, Bahamas, Denmark, and the USSR. As a side note, I have traded on the black market in Minsk, while Soviet tanks and missiles were being paraded down the streets. I have also seen the changing of the guard at Lenin's Tomb--on the Fourth of July.

6. Deliberately mean or evil people really piss me off. I allow others more charitable than I to covert them to goodness. Don't cross the line around me.

7. I have partied with JY from Styx at an annual party that has been held for over one hundred years. The organization is the Indiana Society of Chicago, of which I am an Honorary Vice President.

8. My other personal ambition has always been to have a wife, and children, and a beautiful house. I want to write Santa letters to them at Christmastime, and instill a sense of joy, wonder, and imagination in their lives.

The rules say that I must now pick eight people to tag, and they may participate also. Since I am late to this party, I'm sure some of my choices have already been tagged. Heck, I don't even know if these people have blogs! Where the hell have I been?

Busy, busy, busy--as the animated magicians say this time of year. Also, I tend to not blog the drama that seems to swirl around my avatar. I do have a capacity for diplomacy, and it works best when I keep my mouth shut. The downside of this is that I've become something of a blog recluse. So, perhaps I'll begin being less selective soon.

I'd like to give a huge thank you to Eladrienne Laval who spent a bunch of time straightening out the business end of the gallery. We're hatching more plans now--so watch this space! Or of course you can join my new group, Inkyboy Gallery Caledon.

The Duchess of Middlesea and I have parted ways. She's a very sweet girl, and I wish her the very best. Reserved, and very shy, but wickedly clever and dryly hilarious! Things didn't work out between us, but I know she's a hot commodity. I wish her the very best in love, as the waters are rough, and the shores festooned with jagged heartbreak.

She has graciously kept me on as the Painter of Middlesea, and I serve at the pleasure of the Petite Duchess. Smooth sailing, Your Grace. Safe journeys.
